Kevin Dineen hired as Gulls next Head Coach

The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the former NHL forward of 1,091 total games has been hired as the successor to Dallas Eakins.

Dineen was most recently the Assistant Coach of the Chicago Blackhawks underneath Joel Quenville and has been for the past five seasons including their Stanley Cup Championship win in 2014-2015.

Before that he was Head Coach of the Florida Panthers for two full seasons before being fired mid season in 2013-2014. He began his coaching career with the Anaheim Ducks organisation as head coach of their affiliate Portland Pirates in 2005-2006; the same year Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry made their pro debuts.

Dineen spent six seasons with the Pirates coaching many Ducks alumni including Chris Kunitz, Bobby Ryan and Jonas Hiller until the Ducks moved their affiliate to Iowa in 2008. The team made the Calder Cup Conference Finals twice during his tenure as coach. When the team moved to Iowa; Dineen stayed on as coach for the Pirates – overseeing the development of Buffalo Sabres prospects for the next three seasons; during that time he coached several prospective NHLers including Jhonas Enroth, Nathan Gerbe and Tyler Ennis.

He coached 146 games with the Panthers, overseeing a 56-62-28 record during a three year span. He coached 480 games with the Pirates leading them to a 266-155-30 over a six season span.

The hiring reunites him with Corey Tropp – whom he coached in his final year with the Pirates in 2010-2011.
